Wisdom Bringing Blessings
Proverbs 3:13–35 • With Pastor A

Pastor A’s Nugget

A wise decision can bless somebody who never knows what it cost you to make it.

What we’re learning

Recognize wisdom’s value and practice generosity, trustworthiness, and peace toward others.

Golden Text • Proverbs 3:13 • NKJV

“Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding;”

What makes the Golden Text golden? This verse announces the blessed condition of the person who gains wisdom. The following verses show why wisdom is worth more than what money can buy.

Value wisdom • verses 13–18

Wisdom surpasses silver, gold, and jewels. The picture of a tree of life emphasizes nourishment and flourishing. Peace and blessedness belong to the life wisdom nurtures.

Keep wisdom before you • verses 19–26

The Lord’s wisdom is evident in creation. The learner is urged to retain sound judgment and discretion, finding confidence in God rather than surrendering to fear.

Let wisdom reach your neighbor • verses 27–35

Do good when you are able. Do not delay help, scheme against someone who trusts you, provoke needless conflict, or imitate violence. Humility and uprightness matter to God.

Understand the setting

Who

A father or wisdom teacher instructs a learner in the opening section of Proverbs, traditionally associated with Solomon.

When

The book’s Solomonic setting belongs to the tenth century BC; the collected book also reflects later gathering and editing.

Where

Ancient Israel; the lesson book gives Jerusalem as the setting.

Why

To show wisdom’s worth, encourage confidence in the Lord, and connect wise living with the way we treat our neighbors.

Background and context

The passage joins praise of wisdom to concrete instruction. Wisdom is pictured as more valuable than precious metals and as life-giving. The Creator’s wisdom grounds confidence, while everyday neighbor-love shows what it looks like to live wisely.

Keep the meaning clear

Proverbs describes the character and general fruit of wise living. These verses are not a formula guaranteeing wealth, perfect health, uninterrupted sleep, or freedom from suffering. Their instruction must be read alongside Job, Ecclesiastes, and the life of Jesus.

Bring it into everyday life

You can help a neighbor today, but postponing would be more convenient. Wisdom asks what is right and within your ability, then turns that discernment into timely kindness.

Try this together

The better-return exercise: compare an impressive purchase with a wise habit. List the lasting benefits of each. Then choose one act of generosity or peacemaking to practice before next Sunday.

A word for your week

Some of the richest parts of life are easy to overlook: a trustworthy relationship, a clear conscience, a gracious response, and the freedom to do good. Proverbs asks us to notice their worth. As Thanksgiving approaches, thank God for a wise choice that protected a relationship or changed your direction. Then let gratitude become generosity. Somebody near you may benefit from the wisdom you put into practice today.

Let’s pray

Lord, teach me to value what You value. Let Your wisdom shape my choices and make me a blessing to the people around me. Amen.
